Giving Thanks in Texas

Texas has definitely put a spell on me with it’s southern charm. It is a place that resonates with me and if we could my husband and I would move there in a heartbeat.

From feeding Koi fish, to photographing nature, to eating delicious home-cooking, having a Mediterranean Thanksgiving dinner, driving a four-wheeler around acres of property, fishing on Lake Buchanan, watching children play and run wild, having heart-warming conversations with family members on a porch swing while stars poked through the night sky… it was truly a special trip to be thankful for.

Oh, to be able to live in a place where my future children can run free and roam an entire ranch by themselves with their wild imaginations, where the friendly people you meet while out and about reflect the way of life in the south, and where traditional values of family, love, and life are still in tact. Maybe one day in the distant future, we will make our home in Texas. One thing is for sure, our hearts are there already.

Though there were obstacles in getting to Texas, more difficult than I am able to divulge, we have complete confidence that God uses everything for our good. And maybe it is because of those things that we had to overcome to get there that made the trip even more spectacular and enjoyable. Thanks to God and His mercy, many hearts were touched, many happy tears were cried, and many prayers finally answered.

With God as the foundation, I have seen this family smile in the face of adversity, laugh in a time of difficulty, love, and take hope when it seemed none was to be found. The Herrington family amazes and inspires me and I have so much to learn from them.

Nothing can keep a loving family apart. Not bitterness, not jealousy, not fear. Love, the most powerful force in the universe, which comes from God, who is love, is more powerful than fear and love will win in the end.

We thank Jesus for the abundant life He has given us, and for never leaving us or forsaking us through the many ups and downs of life.

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” 1 John 4:18

“We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Romans 5:3-5

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.  They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.  It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.  It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8
