Several years ago, before we were married, my husband and I attended a church event in Santa Barbara where we had the privilege of hearing Levi Lusko speak. Around this time I was looking for a way to dedicate my art and music to God and find an artist name that held profound significance for me as a Christian.
Levi preached on love, sex, and relationships. As he taught on these things he brought out the famous chapter in Proverbs known as The Proverbs 31 Woman.
As he talked about how there are more important things in life than being beautiful and charming, he read from the verses and then expanded on one verse in particular. Proverbs 31:21. As it reads, “She is not afraid for snow for her household, for all her household is clothed in scarlet.”
Then Levi explained the verse in a way I had never heard before.
Proverbs 31 talks about the ultimate kind of woman a man can find. One who is virtuous, industrious, and skilled. One who takes care of all the affairs of the household with poise and grace. She is gifted with an ability to care after things in a way that make her unique as woman. Her contribution to the family and, therefore, society at large is awe-inspiring and beautiful. Proverbs 31 defines true beauty.
As Levi illustrated, “clothed in scarlet” holds more meaning than just implying that she and her family was well dressed for winter.
It means that she and her family are covered by the blood of Jesus Christ.
What does it mean to be “covered” with His blood?
It means that God is a holy and just God who cannot be in the presence of sin. And because He is just He has to judge sin. When man sinned a sacrifice had to be made. Something had to pay the penalty. Jesus paid that penalty for us.
In being “covered with the blood” one need not fear the “winter” or the “cold,”which as Levi explained, is a metaphor for death. Death is the great fallout of sin having entered the world. But Jesus has overcome death and offers us eternal life.
Believing in Jesus definitely doesn’t win cool points in this world. Still, Jesus is my light. My salvation. God who provides. God who hears my cries. God who answers my prayers. I owe Him my life.
Christianity isn’t some crutch or some religion that makes me feel better about myself. It is a reality. It is a relationship with God that without Jesus, is broken and unattainable. Jesus has changed everything. His death and resurrection is my reality. With my whole being I believe this and it is my greatest joy.
I need not fear death because He has given me eternal life. And because I need not fear death, I am passionate about living the abundant life He has given me. For me, a major part of that is creating art, music, and dabbling in whatever new creative hobby or project excites me. So I have created this blog as a channel for those passions.
And so, it is because of Him, that I am…
